Ask HN: I have a website and a 3d printer. How do I make them communicate?

The website is being hosted in the cloud, and the 3d printer is connected to my laptop via serial port, and I want them to talk. How do I go about doing so?<p>(Stackoverflow says its not possible, but the answers are all from several years ago)
