Mahyar has experience in startups, research, and business. Prior to Emotiful, Mahyar was a post doctoral researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge. At MSR, he conducted several research projects in the space of crowdsourcing and media tagging which he presented to Microsoft Senior Management.

As a consultant to MojoLive, a startup in the area of career management, he designed a social news aggregation proprietary algorithm for the social networking website.

Mahyar holds a PhD in computer science from University of Southern California.

Some would say he has far too many hobbies, including playing classical guitar, poker, painting, traveling, financial markets and languages.
